Protect Mount Hallowell

The Denmark Shire Council is currently calling on public comment to the development of a series of downhill mountain bike trails through the Mount Hallowell Reserve. View the concept plan in full here.

The Denmark Environment Centre has some strong objections to the development of this trail network in an A class Reserve. Please make a comment on the plan before the 1st August.

Key recommendations:

Safeguard the Biodiversity values of Mt Hallowell A Class reserve for future generations

  • Consider the negative effects on this special reserve before making a submission on the Shires webpage : – o Core area should not be compromised o Dieback will spread o Erosion will impact the trails area o Clearing and Disturbance of Flora and Fauna will occur o Weed invasion will occur o Easier Access for Feral and Domestic animals o Potential for further unsanctioned trails and disturbance

o Aboriginal Heritage has not been considered for this project

For more detail on the DEC’s analysis of this concept plan, download this four page leaflet or a one page summary.

If you want some assistance developing an objection to the Mountain Bike trail concept plan at Mount Hallowell, download the proforma document and personalise it with your objections.
